The Top5 Reasons This Is A Harsh Console War

A largely debated topic since the beginning of the conole war has been--why is there a console war at all? Well there really is a lot of hate floating around, and it is coming from all the systems. People are trolling and pointlessly arguing. I have decided to list the top 5 reasons this has been a harsh console war and will continue to be.

#5) Video Games Growing Popularity

When video games were first release we really didn't see such a divide in fans. The divide was there, just not as much. With video games ever growing popularity though, it has become almost a ritual to support one side of the fence or the other. This may be due to a mass amount of people who now play video games. If you were to throw two people in a ring who completely hated each other-- one guy likes Sony and the other guy likes Nintendo-- they probably will begin to dislike the other persons favorite company, that is just how it works. So with more people you get more hate.

#4) Different Types Of Systems

Today is a lot different with consoles, instead of just really two main companies--you have 3. If you look back to the late 80's - early 90's, the main two companies were Sega and Nintend. Then in the mid 90's - late 90's it was Nintendo and Sony, although Sega was there they were in serious decline. Then for a few years it was kind of dominance by only Sony, 2000-2002. Then we suddenly had Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft all in a console battle, the exception here though is that Nintendo and Microsoft were playing catch-up and it never really became a contest. Now though, all three consoles were released within a year of each other roughly. This in turn has made no large gap in sales and little time to make a decisions. Now though we have the Wii which is such a different style of play which attracts different people, then we have a Xbox360 which attracts the people looking for the in-between experience with good online play, and finally we have a PS3 which offers a great high-definition experience and hardcore gameplay. When you have 3 different types of gaming you will normally get people choosing that one category and defending it, normally leading to arguments.

#3) The Internet? :O

Yes, that is right. I believe the internet has spun this console race into a war. Back when there was the NES the internet was used so little that no one could express the way they felt, and up until 10 years ago it would have been hard to find the message boards filling with information about the console war like they do today. If there is one thing that communities and forum boards do it is that they make people post their feelings. One disagreement on a forum board can lead to a never ending flame war, people 20 years ago wouldn't have the first clue as to what you were talking about if you claimed you had a flame war.

#2) Fan Boys

Today is a different type of console war, people go out of their ways to put on t-shirts or dress up as their favorite game character to show what team they are for. People are prowling forum boards telling everyone how great their console is and how bad the others are... just to show who they support. Put your frikken favorite console in your forum signature and forget posting, posting leads to flame wars and useless arguing. What does anyone else care what console you support anyways, I mean seriously--why should your opinion make anyone elses any different?

#1) Competition

The competition these consoles have brought to the table takes me back to the early 90's when Sega and Nintendo were battling it out. At this point in the console war any console still has a legitimate chance at winning the battle, all of the consoles are still fairly close. The closer the competition the more likely you are to argue over what console should win, who will lose, and what the better console is. Having said that, I think that these posts are important to the console race and that we need these kind of posts without the negative.

The Top 5 Reasons The PS3 Will Win The Console War

The console market today is as tough as any industry there is, but it wasn't always like this. For the past several years the PS2 has been the console to trump, and before it there was the original Playstation which also dominated the market. One unclear question still remains though; will the Playstation 3 remain atop the market? Many analysts believe that this will in fact hold true, but why are they claiming this? In my personal opinion, here are the Top 5 reasons that the Playstation 3 will eventually re-take the lead in the game industries market.

#5) The Xbox360 and How It Matches Up

The Xbox360 is a great console, but it has its flaws. The Xbox360 is a very similar console to the PS3. They have similar play and they have similar specifications. The Xbox360 has an estimated 30% failure rate (Gizmodo) and this will cost Microsoft dearly. The Xbox360 is struggling to maintain its position in America, and if that isn't enough it can't even gain a foothold in Japan or Europe. The Xbox360 has failed in Japan from the beginning and it is now beginning to lose its appeal in Europe as well (VGChartz). You have to win in Japan if you plan to compete in the console business, and the Xbox360 has failed to do that so far. This is why the PS3 will inevitably beat it out.

#4) The Wii and How It Compares

The Wii is a very good system, but it has some issues. The Wii is fun and all, but I really do not think its position in the console market will stand. So far the games for the Wii have been less than stellar, that is of course unless you like Hannah Montana sing along and Barbie As Repunzel games. There have been a few games that I have liked on the other hand, these include games like "Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy, and Wii Sports" but these games eventually will find their ways to a shelf just like all others. In the near future there just doesn't seem to be any great stand-outs. The Wii also has an issue of longevity, how long can a console built with old technology last? The Wii has proven that old technology in a new case can sell, and we all know that Nintendo will milk it for what it is worth. Nintendo cannot last in a market that demands the latest and greatest in technology forever though. HD is the new thing that everyone wants, and the Wii does not have it--nor will it ever have it. As I see it Nintendo will probably be ready to ship out a new console within the next year or two. This is just another reason why Sony will prevail.

#3) Steadily Dropping Price

I know that this is probably a way over used excuse, and maybe it goes without saying. Sony was and is selling consoles with a price tag that is just unreachable for a lot of us. If they can sell a console for as much as they are selling it, imagine what it will be like when that price gets down to the $300-350 mark. If people wanted to buy a console when it was double that price, imagine how many would want to buy it at that price, the things will be going like wildfire. I will be expecting price drops probably in the June/July-ish area and they will spike console sales one more time. This is yet another reason why you can expect the PS3 to eventually take victory.

#2) Blu-Ray Is Format Of Choice

The people have spoken, and the victor is... (ok you all know this). Blu-Ray won the format war, and I believe it still hasn't completely sunk in with people yet. It is understandable though, that you would not just jump up and go spend $500 on a Blu-Ray player knowing there is a possibility that it could still lose the format war. Eventually though, when the smoke completely clears, the PS3 will begin to see the full effects of the format war. The PS3 should start to sell as good as any other console and will have the advantage of being a 2 for 1 deal; you could even just buy it for the Blu-Ray and still get a decent deal. Blu-Ray is a difference maker, just wait and see.

#1) Sony's Massive Fan Base

While there is no evidence that Sony's oh so loyal fan base is still well over a hundred million, you have to believe enough still remain that it will catch up with it (the PS3) and eventually put it over that hump. Maybe Sony understood that when they were releasing the console, and even with its very disappointing price tag it would eventually sell to those who follow Sony. Don't get me wrong though, every system has its loyal following, but I think that Sony probably has the largest fan base of them all.

I hope you enjoyed my list.

The Top 5 Reasons Microsoft WIll Get Yahoo

In a recent post I had covered the reasons Yahoo should sell, but here are the reasons Microsoft will end up with the company known as Yahoo--for now. If you would like to read the top 5 reasons Yahoo should sell, go here.

#5) Microsoft's Threatening Letters

In a recent letter to Yahoo Microsoft threatened the company, telling them that they will either sell or Microsoft will buy them from the shareholders. Microsoft knows this will inevitably lead to Yahoo's sell of the company. Yahoo is put into a tough spot and Yahoo will sell in the end due to pressure from the shareholders.

#4) Yahoo's Lack of Options

Yahoo is running out of options, their company is starting to slip and one of the few remaining options is to sell to Microsoft. If Yahoo is to wait much longer not only will Microsoft go to the shareholders, Yahoo will lose money on the deal. And as a final point, Yahoo has no where to hide, Microsoft is going to buy them out if they don't sell.

#3) Microsoft Gets What They Want

We all know they have the cash, and we certainly know they are determined. If Microsoft Does not get Yahoo it will shock me, because nine times out of ten they get what they want. Microsoft can buy anything they want virtually and at will can summon people to sell to them.

#2) Microsoft Has The Cash

Money has never been an object for Microsoft, unless of course it comes to them selling something. Microsoft, in the long run, will make their money back from Yahoo. Microsoft can take a much bigger fee than what they are offering.

#1) Microsoft Needs Yahoo and Much As Yahoo Needs Them

Microsoft is in a constant battle with Google, these two companies have gone at it for years. In order for Microsoft to get a better market share they must take a large chunk of the market and add it to what they already have. Yahoo needs Microsoft for financial reasons where as Microsoft needs Yahoo for market reasons.

If you would like to know more about Microsoft recent email to yahoo, go here. There are your top 5 reasons.
