The Top 5 Reasons Xbox Live Should Be Free
In an attempt to help you better understand my stance on Xbox Live being free I decided to post a T5 on it. So here is the Top 5 Reasons Xbox Live should be free.
#5) PC Online Is Superior and Free
The PC offers an online experience that is far superior to anything you will find on a game console. This poses problems for XBL and ultimately takes away customers. I think Microsoft should start to re-analyze the situation.
#4) Playstation Network Is Catching Up
With the Home due out in full release sometime this year Micrsoft has reason to fear that people looking for a decent yet affordable(free) experience will be moving to Sony. Yet another reasons why XBL should be free.
#3) Doesn't Cost Microsoft A Lot
Providing the Xbox Live Service does not cost Microsoft a whole lot and is just another reason to be buying their game system. Microsoft can afford this hit and I am sure they would not lose money anyways.
#2) Microsoft Makes Load Off Downloads
Microsoft already makes a lot of money off their downloads and ads. They would be making even more if there was more people using their service. Sure there is a lot of money in selling the service, but in the case of downloads and ads it sells the service and would sell even better if the XBL was free.
#1) Sell More Consoles
If Xbox Live was free Microsoft would be selling a lot more consoles. They already have issues trying to sell consoles, and free Xbox Live would actually be a highly relative selling point. People would be more inclined to buy a 360, Xbox Live costs a lot and makes the consoles price a lot heavier than it actually looks.

#5 is plain wrong, unless you are talking about steam games you have to have a different account for every single game.
#4 We will wait to see how awesome Home is when it finally gets here. In any case Sony will start charging for PSN about 5 minutes after they determine that they can get away with.
#3 More profit for the Xbox division means more R&D and other resources, up until recently they have been consistently losing money and have now just started to become profitable.
#2 How much time does the average gamer spend looking at ads? Seriously most users don't spend even locse to 5 minutes a day in the dashboard.
#1 They would sell a few more consoles but they sill lose money on every console sold, where Live is one of the major profit centers for the division, plus people who have Live Gold are more likely to buy more games after they have made the investment which is where another huge chunk of profit comes from.
Saying "Xbox Live should be free" is like saying "Phone Service should be free" or even better "Cable TV should be free" Sure it would be great for the people who don't want to pay but it doesn't make a lot of business sense.
