The Top 5 Reasons To Wait On Blu-Ray
As hard as this is for me to admit, being a Sony fan, --unless you go the route of the PS3-- you should wait on buying a blu-ray disc player. Here is the top 5 reasons why.
#5) BD-Live
Hold on, it will be on all systems soon. The BD-Live is getting closer and titles are expected to be online by April 8th of this year. I would wait on this one though because not all blu-ray players currently have it and more than likely if you buy one it will not have a 2.0 profile. This is arguably the best feature coming to the Blu-ray player in the near future and will allow a plethora of new features to your blu-ray needs. Until it has been out for a few months and there is more titles, with all the bugs worked out you should hold off on it.
#4) Limited Material
Although there are several hundred movies to choose from, you just won't be getting a great selection. There has been a decent amount of movies that were worth watching released but, the movies are expensive and you just need to wait till there is absolutely something you must see in HD,and until then you should just stick to dvd.
#3) Still In Development
The Blu-Ray technology has not been maximized yet, they are still working on new features, they are attempting new storage capacities and things that may require a new system all together.
#2) New Technology
Unfortunately, at this point there is no guarentee that Blu-Ray is going to be the future of movies. There has been a lot of stories popping up lately claiming that a new format will be testing the waters soon. That should worry every consumer, even though BR has a nice established base.
#1) Blu-Ray is Expensive, The Price Drops Are Coming
If there is one thing every consumer knows, it is that Blu-Ray is expensive. You will have to reach deep into your pockets to buy one, and if you're like me, you will probably be digging in your neighbors pockets too...
The price drops are coming though, just not any time soon. By next year though they will start to see a steady decline I would have to believe.
